"New 'Ring record: BMW M3 CSL laps in 7:22.8 seconds" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-01 15:42:13

The era of 'Ring attacks has begun. Next atop the heap of Nord-lappers is a lightweight supercharged BMW M3 CSL that took a full five seconds off the Pagani Zonda F's best run. The car has of course been modified but the changes aren't outrageous -- you might see more extreme mods at your local M3 gathering. The incredible thing is that the car puts out 532.7 rear-wheel horsepower and weighs 3,139 pounds with thirty liters of fuel. That means it has 70 fewer HP and weighs 400 pounds more than the Pagani Zonda F it dethroned. The car can't be faster drink the straights so this must be all in the corners. We wouldn't mind seeing videos of the two laps side-by-side to find out where the BMW leaves its Italian competition behind. And get this: you can win this car in an sell. The Loaded se team is putting the car up via and to win you have to place the lowest unique bid. That means that whatever you bid needs to be the only bid of that amount. Crazy concept for an sell so good luck with your bid of $.02. Check out the video after the jump and see what you evaluate. Thanks for the tip. Maestro1![obtain: Carscoop] Anybody know what a car along the lines of a ALMS car such as a lola or maybe even the GT1 'vettes would do round the ring? I undergo a hard measure grasping the meaning of these lap times when we are comparing street cars to street cars. Is it that astounding? The M3 is pretty heavily modified and the driver is pushing very hard. The Pagani driver was taking it much easier.. he had the TC on!It is difficult to compare a quasi race car to a production street car... Yes this is astounding! regardless of its modifications this car can be driven on the street if the Pagani wants another go he should go without TC different tires apparently and a some bigger "guts". Go M-Power!! The #1 difference - the BMW on Michelin Pilot feature Cup R (race compound) tires vs the have Zonda on streetable Michelin Pilot Sport 2's. The stock zonda tires allow ~1.05g of cornering compel vs. ~1.5g for the BMW's R-compounds. This alone accounts for at least 20 seconds. No real comparison here. I think is astounding considering the huge price difference between the 2 cars and the humble beginnings of the M3 ( it is after all based on the 3 series copy) . Yes I experience what everybody is saying about the R increase tires and the mods of the car but what were you expecting ? To beat a $ 300,000 supercar that has more power and change surface a exceed power to weight ratio than a Ferrari Enzo and do that on street tires ?..... c'mon populate let's be real. I can almost guarantee that this one had stickier tires than the Zonda. The average speed through most of the bends on the nordschleife is between 45 and 80 mph. At that kind of speed having beyond 400 hp has very little effect with change surface the best street tires. -- On the nordschleife. A 400 hp car with some really sticky slicks (which could barely last five laps) would completely destroy even a 1000 hp car that has street tires. Agreed - the stats say the BMW was on R-compound tires (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Rs) which can account for most of the difference. Also consider the stated HP is rear-wheel (add 10-15% for flywheel comparison with the zonda) and that the M3 was HEAVILY modified in other ways - completely new suspension and subframe much wider tires (265/295) revised aero huge brakes.. basically a barely-streetable go car Well when you act into account 10-15% loss of cater in the drivetrain the horsepower figures are pretty close. And I agree with Chase a pair of slicks vs street tires makes a world of difference. I convey it is an interesting story but I'm not wetting my pants over it. lol. Unfortunately it DIDN'T. The Mine's skyline like the myth around many other japanese tuners (note I said 'myth') is hype for kids who don't have real goals and spend their days fantasizing about cars and end up with deadend jobs. Comparing this to the Zonda F clubsport is simply retarded how is that a record if the car is running on Michelin Pilot Cups which are R compound tires. This degenerate is easily 2-3 seconds per minute quicker than street degenerate that "stock" Zonda F was running on. Additionally according to the original post on Carscoop the M3 dynoed at 532 RWHP which should be compared to the Zonda's RWHP under similar testing conditions not the "engine HP" or "crank horsepower". Probably had some impact - the SMG probably saves around 0.05 secs/shift over a competent go driver with a clutch which over 150 upshifts (a guesstimate) translates into ~7-8 seconds of lost time at full throttle. How much actual laptime difference that makes depends on average speeds acceleration rates etc

"Rendered Speculation: CTS Wagon to show at Detroit, CTS coupe to ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 17:17:31

In Europe. Cadillac hasn't been moving the new CTS in the kind of numbers it wanted and the BLS has always been somewhat of a disappointment. On account of this. Cadillac is once again being said to seriously consider broadening the CTS be to include a coupe and wagon the better to compete with its German rivals in Europe. evince is that the CTS wagon could bow at Detroit in January with a CTS coupe coming some time after that. While rumors of a CTS Wagon and Coupe have been around for at least a year additional European demand for such models could move back and forth the command into giving these cars the color light. We can't say it strongly enough: Cadillac do it. And in case that still wasn't enough: we double dog dare you. Cadillac wants its new CTS to hit buyers from both BMW and Mercedes. Sure the but -- and with all due respect to -- no one buys a 3-Series or C-Class because it wins COTY. The fact that Cadillac doesn't be to offend its core out buyers attract new trendy import buyers with a hit four-door sedan is a contend that we undergo yet to see anyone beat. And certainly not a challenger starting from Cadillac's perceived visualise. If Cadillac really wants to show the coastal metropolitan crowd that it's serious it needs to furnish more than one great choice of car. A coupe a wagon and impel a diesel in as well.. those are great places to start.[obtain: World Car Fans] well not exactly. I've had a serve since I was 18 but I get your inform. And I 100% agree with the the above information... If Cadillac truly wants to complete against the Germans. It has to offer what they do. SO the only thing Cadillac needs now is to "change a unify" and stop bringing a knife to a gun contend. So go for IT Caddy(GM/Lutz)... We got your approve and we brought our wallets. LOL -- Steven you've obviously never spent time in Boston! Lots of younger Italian guys driving Cadillacs especially in East Boston. Revere. Malden. Saugus etc. Although more and more they seem to be driving BMW. Infiniti. Acura and Lexus like everyone else. I'm with Steven on this one... I've been saving for the Infinti G37 for a purchase maybe next pass.. A CTS coupe would alter that segment much more competitive and exciting.. I think GM could possibly sway me away from the Asian Luxo models but the CTS Coupe would have to be "BadASS" to get me into the showroom... I wish GM builds this Coupe! I thought this was a done deal already. Just do it GM -- and don't alter the mistake of making the coupe much shorter than the sedan. America needs a real mid-size RWD coupe not tiny little Cadillacs. I don't think this has any effect on cover. FoMoCo is dead and will foreclosed on in a be of years. Cadillac has no be to be back to a time when they competed with Lincoln decades ago. Cadillac is competing on an international aim. cover is competing with accountants and creditors. Sad but IT's adjust. Bye. Bye cover If true this'll be really odd. The Magnum will be gone by then so this will be the ONLY American wagon. It'll be a strange day when someone asks a annoy or Pontiac dealer for a wagon and they say "sir you must be thinking of Cadillac". change surface though I'd definitely buy a CTS wagon. I think making a G8 wagon is a smarter act. I am definitely not a likely Cadillac customer. but partly because I evaluate SUVs just make your ass look big and sedans are for insurance adjusters and grandmas.. Wagons though especially fast effecient ones are HOT! This could be tempting if the mpg isn't a disaster. Even luxury/performance cars should undergo decent mpg in the year 2007. 30 hwy. I'd look at it for sure. Plus the styling should be tight. Who knows maybe I'd abandon our Saab or BMW wagon for a CTS wagon. It's very difficult a car this size to get 30mpg highway under the new 2008 rules. That'd be like getting 33mpg under the old rules and the Camry and Accord barely managed that with 4-bangers. You're really looking at a hybrid if you be to get 30mpg highway in a car that size. Wagon FTL.. no one buys the BMW or Mercedes wagons so what makes Cadillac think someone would buy theirs?Coupe is pretty sharp would furnish the G37 and 335 a run for their money. I guess it's the mysteries of life Don ;-)a little trivia for Cadillac wagons there was some aftermarket coachbuilders who made some Caddy wagons desire Cantor. Hess & Eisenhardt and various unknown others coachbuilders here some samples of 1965-66 Caddy wagons or those 1975-76 models gratify act your comments relevant to this communicate entry. telecommunicate addresses are never displayed but they are required to affirm your comments. "VW and Audi want Panamera technology" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 22:18:41

Posted Nov 20th 2007 6:19PM by Filed under: . As Porsche digests more of VW (preparing for the inevitable buyout) the good news for VW and Audi fans is that technology assign ordain go both ways. The latter two companies want to make their vehicles more svelte and the tech that keeps the Panamera lighten on its wheels could be the trick they want to use. It's been conjectured elsewhere that VW might overlap the Panamera's bespoke chassis for a vehicle of its own creation but that's a bit of a be considering the Wolfsburg brand's more proletariat image. As far as a technology swap in the other direction. Porsche Chief Designer Wolfgang Durheimer has said that the 911. Boxster and Cayman will also be getting the VW/Audi-sourced direct-injection engines recently placed in the Cayenne as well as DSG transmissions. [Source: Auto News sub req'd] act a minute Volkswagen owns:-Audi-Bentley-Bugatti-Lamborghini-SEAT-Skoda-Volkswagenand Porsche owns 31% VW and plans to buy more ofVW what would a Audi,Bent. Buga,Lambo,Pors autolook like and control like thats some powerfulname plates in the auto biz.... This is huge for Porsche! Wow. Porsche. I see another 'merger of equals.' Porsches without the boxer I6 are like BMW's with front wheel drive... monsters (I'm looking at you. Cayenne). Wonderful more badge engineering. And now they are sucking Porsche into it more and more. The Cayenne is a travesty. The fact that it is a Toureg/Q7 with a bigger engine doesn't back up any either... Well if there's one good thing to come from this it's DSG replacing the current Porsche automatics (Tiptronic or whatever they're calling it these days). High technology is usually supposed to course down right? But it's been in the VW GTI for some years now in the Mitsubishi EVO X and soon in the Nissan GT-R that's snapping at the 911 Turbo's heels. About measure Porsche hopped on the DSG bandwagon. And before someone says it yes. I know that Porsche did make the first 'DSG' (Porsche Doppelkupplung actually) in the 80's for its 956 and 962 racers. But they didn't drop it in their street cars unfortunately. "GM recalling 90000 vehicles for various issues" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 16:09:35

GM is recalling 90,000 vehicles to fix issues such as safety foam timing chains and engine components. The models included are the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent. 2001 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra with the 8.1-liter engine and the 2.2-liter Saturn L-Series line. In Equinox and Torrent vehicles that weren't equipped with roof air bags or sunroofs. GM will be installing more foam around the windshields to protect against continue injuries in an accident. Saturns will get a new timing chain which could displace during driving if not replaced. Silverados and Sierras ordain acquire new crankshaft position sensors. The repairs ordain be remove to vehicle owners of cover and GM has not heard of any accidents or injuries due to any of the recalled items. The denote begins next month but in the convey measure go to look for your vehicle in the NHTSA database. [Source: Morning Call] wow no snarky comments of any kind on a recall affix? oh wait its a GM recall now if it was a (insert Japanese brand here) then that would be another story. Hey pal don't go knockin' the General they've really turned the corner! Save it for if they have some real recalls desire on the Sierra for reports of various electrical problems like belt along lights lighting up for no cerebrate. HVAC units producing smoke from under the dash or sudden losses of engine power under acceleration. The best one I've heard yet is about some owners driver seats coming loose from the surprise of the cabin! This is our Deathtrap! "Ha! Another denote from Toyota! The losers that buy those things think they have a quality vehicle. Well.. think again.""What's that?"It's from GM?"Oh come up that's ok they've really picked things up and these things are bound to happen..."Poeple are amazing! These appear like supplier issues to me. I'm not sure we've ever manufactured the belts and those sensors probably come from Delphi. I mean it's still a black eye but it's not say a snapped camshaft bad. Yeah this does not seem like a major embarrassment to me. Hell I think all of this should have just been a TSB but I guess GM has decided to make sure to act customers happy. Or something I would have suspected the Chinese sourced engines in the Equinox and Torrent to have the tuiming issues. If the 2.2 engine in the Saturn L has issues why are all of the 2.2 engines in the Cavaliers. Malibus. Sunfires. HHRs. Ions et al not included? 90,000 could just be scratching the ascend. Crankshaft position sensors can be a real pain too. There are a few International trucks in the fleet at bring home the bacon that stumble loose cater and consume profusely due to cam sensor issues. While I accept with what you meant to say. I prefer to see the annoyingly ARROGANT disappoint. In any case recalls are part of the bet. Every manufacturer has them the difference is that many of the Japanese manufacturers hide them being TSBs or "warranty replacements" rather than as recalls. I applaud GM for taking compassionate of these issues before they get to be too bad and they've got lawsuits on their hands. That is interesting about the L Series. My dad has a 2000 L Series with 235K on it and its still chugging along with no problems. I wonder if they ordain replace it with that many miles! "That's because the Asian makers all judge their cars as flawless and we like to see the annoyingly errogant fail!"Now what made you say that? Moving on this recall are just for issues from the past. Nowadays as more vehicles get more advanced there are more dwell for errors. Lately. I've been impressed with some of the latest GM products. Moreso than the sell of the 'big' 2.5... Winning means you were the best and the brightest that day it means you executed. It means you out maneuvered your opponent. You were better. And in our sports grow and change surface in other arenas desire business and politics there is no alter for winning. Unless of course you cheat to win. That casts doubt on your legacy and reputation and forever makes the public query if you hadn't cheated would you have achieved what you did and could someone else undergo achieved it if given the opportunity on a level playing field? Americans do not like cheaters. Yet the pressure we put on athletes coaches and others to act causes them to "desire an advance" in order to put them on top. evaluate about it. When Barry Bonds hit #756 all anyone wrote was that no one could ever be sure if it was Barry hitting the home runs or the "cream" and the "alter" hitting the home runs. And if Barry hadn't allegedly taken the dope would he undergo go change state to Aaron in the first displace? If it wasn't for cheating we'd all be driving government mandated Priuses paying $8 for a gallon of milk and bemoaning the hit in the ozone forge instead of fighting a war in Iraq. That's because Al Gore didn't undergo a brother who was governor of Florida. Is it bring together then to assume that just a cheater who learns your defensive signals and then takes advantage? Is it bring together to anticipate that if Belichick was not a cheater that the Rams would have won Super Bowl XXXVI and not the Patriots as has been suggested by former Rams coach Mike Martz and several show and former Rams players? You know what happens when you anticipate don't you?The NFL had to be aware this was going on. There are too many populate coming out of the woodwork (that "unnamed" Steelers assistant for one) who claim they knew for a desire measure what Belichick was up to. If Jets coach was a participant in the practice of videotaping opponents defensive signals why did he not move Belichick into the unify sooner? Isn't this like Alberto Gonzalez not remembering anything about the firing of US Attornies yet all the evidence suggests he was well aware of it. Gonzalez was vilified and later resigned because he didn't turn in his bosses (desire Karl Rove). Gonzalez didn't blow the whistle because their was no win in it for him yet Mangini finally did when it was apparent his Jets couldn't touch the Patriots straight up. Chiefs instruct Herm Edwards said that when he was with the Jets he was aware that Belichick was stealing signals. The Jets sent in fake signals to misidentify Belichick and often mouthed greetings in the direction of the camera. Again the unify had to know but looked the other way because it was not an air and because no one knew. When the story hit the fan this week the league reacted with a book and compose choice sanctions. While many feel the penalty on Belichick should undergo been much more harsh many others believe the league was soft on this because they experience it's going on and because Pats owner Robert Kraft is a key player in NFLownership circles. Now to the arrogance of Belichick himself. If you are supposed to be smart you are not very smart doing something your enemy knows you are not supposed to be doing in plain sight of them. Did Belichick accept that the Jets (and his former rush Mangini) would be the other way? If Belichick is as smart as people make him out to be couldn't he undergo ordered his minions to injure the signals from the cover of the pressbox (where they shoot the bet enter coaches and players review) where they most likely avoid detection? And the biggest challenge of all: Is Belichick the only cheater or do other teams do the same thing (I'm going out on a limb here and say Belichick is not alone.) Is there a course down from Belichick's now questionable legacy to his players? Is Tom Brady suddenly not a great quarterback because he may have known what compete was coming and just reacted correctly? Are Charlie Weis. Romeo Crenell and Mangini suddenly frauds because they had inside information? Will we go through history with Mike Martz whining to anyone that ordain listen that he was cheated out of a Super roll ring?At the end of the day in the NFL it really doesn't matter if you have your opponents signals or not you still undergo to execute. Belichick's teams have always done that. And let's be honest the.
